CAIS DO GINJAL. CACILHAS 2026 - ON GOING

Located on the riverfront of Cais do Ginjal, in Cacilhas, the project proposes the rehabilitation of an existing building, aiming to restore and highlight its architectural identity and its relationship with the surrounding area.

Historically linked to the Tejo River and to port, fishing, and industrial activities, Ginjal has been home to workshops, canning factories, and shipyards over the centuries. It is within this context that the intervention emphasizes the existing structure, drawing on an architectural study of the façade to guide the restoration of the original elevation and reverse alterations that had compromised its character over time. The design strategy thus seeks to restore the façade's balance and legibility, while simultaneously highlighting the building's privileged relationship with the Tejo river and the Lisbon waterfront.

The proposal adapts the building to modern requirements, reconciling necessary transformations through an approach that prioritizes architectural continuity.
