MURTA VELHA. PORTALEGRE 2026 - ON GOING
Situated in the typical Alentejo landscape, at the foot of the Serra de São Mamede mountain range, the project stems from the pre-existence of a rural farmhouse and its direct relationship with the surrounding plain.
The project consists of the rehabilitation and expansion of the existing house through the construction of a pool house, which takes advantage of the existing stone walls, proposing the placement of a slab that defines permanence while remaining open to the landscape, functioning as a habitable extension between interior and exterior.
At the same time, a set of new agricultural buildings is introduced, reorganizing the built complex and establishing a new volumetric composition on the land. These volumes reclaim the scale and materiality of rural architecture, contributing to a unified reading of the farmhouse as a built system and not as a sum of isolated objects.
The intervention thus asserts itself as a process of addition and continuity, where the new relies on the existing to reinforce the relationship between dwelling, production, and landscape.
